1. Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Almost all children are familiar with the Harry Potter character created by J. K. Rowling. The thrill of this first sequel appealed to people irrespective of age. This movie grossed $926,287,400 thus becoming the fourth highest grosser in Hollywood. In this movie the main character is Harry played to perfection by Daniel Radcliffe. The story revolves round Harry’s quest to have a showdown with evil Lord Voldemort who had killed his parents. Warner Bros produced this sequel and Chris Columbus directed it.

 

2. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Directed by George Lucas this movie was a classic. It was the first of the Star Wars series and probably the best of all. The movie is all about a mission to save planet Naboo from getting invaded by a very powerful dark lord. The queen of this planet seeks the help of Jedi knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to save her planet. This movie earned $924,317,558 thereby becoming the sixth highest grosser. 20th Century Fox produced this movie.

 

3. Shrek

Shrek is a computer animated movie produced by Dream Works Animation SKG. A fairy tale picture book written by William Steig inspired its story.  This movie won the Academy Award in the Best Animated Feature category in 2002. Made on a budget of $60 million Shrek raked in $267.6 million thus becoming the second highest grosser in the animated movie category. The main animated characters of Shrek and Fiona were represented by the voices of Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz. Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson directed the movie.

 

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

This one is another great Harry Potter movie based on J. K. Rowling’s fourth novel. This movie grossed $892,213,036 thus becoming the ninth highest grosser. Produced by Warner Bros and directed by Mike Newell the movie revolves round the wizardry tricks of three young wizards taking part in a competition named Goblet of Fire.

 

5. E.T. Extra Terrestrial

A children’s science fiction movie, the ET won the Academy Award in 1982. Even adults flocked into theatres to watch this movie considered as an all time great science fiction movie. The movie which was distributed by Universal Pictures grossed $435,110,554 in domestic circuits thus becoming the third highest grosser. ET is all about a 10 year old boy who develops a deep bond of friendship with an alien. In the end the alien joins his species and the scene looked really heartrending. It was the highly talented and famous Steven Spielberg, who directed this movie.
